Today, the Economist published their “Democracy Index”, ranking the World’s countries in regard to democracy. Sweden came out on top with what they called a “near perfect” democracy. Scoring 10.00 (maximum) in 4 out of 5 categories, the total “democracy score” for Sweden was 9.88. The categories graded are:
Electoral process and pluralism
Functioning of Government
Political Participation
Political Culture
Civil Liberties
Sweden scored a perfect 10 in all but “Political Culture”, were it was given a 9.38. Political Culture, according to this is in part whether people accept election results without complaining. It is basically on how much faith people put into a democracy, vs. a regime.
Only 28 countries qualify according to this index as “Full Democracies”. Mexico rank a somewhat distant 53, as a “Flawed Democracy”. It is important to note, though, that it rates comparably high on Electoral Process (8.75) and Civil Liberties (8.53). Where Mexico gets bad grades is in the Political Culture (thanks to idiot AMLO supporters!) with a 5.00 and Political Participation (5.00). This index should show, though, that civil liberties EXIST and democratic elections DO TAKE PLACE in Mexico.
